Abstract

This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of the ``How to talk so kids will Listen: HTKL¡± Program for Korean parents and children. HTKL program is based on Haim Ginott``s person-centered parent education theory. The purpose of this program is to acknowledge children`` emotions and to talk about them, In this way, parents can help children socialize their emotions. With socialization of emotion, kids can develop their emotional competence and their social competence. Subjects were 5-7 age children arid their parents from kindergarten in S-gu Seoul. There were 65 participant in pre-assessment but in post-assessment the number of people left were 22 participant. We assessed parent``s emotional expressivity with Self-Expressiveness in the Family Questionnaire. The teacher of kindergarten were asked to check children`` frienshipness-competences. And children were assessed their feeling of happiness by researchers who were trained. The HTKL program was 6 session program and held once a week. In program, parents learned specific skills to acknowledge children`` feelings, to talk about it and to cooperate with their children, Assessments were analyzed using paired t-test. There were significant changes in mother``s negative self-expressiveness. Implications and suggestions for future research were discussed.
